Bangladesh is a major sourcing base for apparel, leather, light engineering, agro-products and IT services, and a growing destination for business process outsourcing. Do you make purchasing decisions on our behalf?
Only within the authority you delegate in writing. In most engagements we run the process, recommend a supplier and prepare the file, while your named approver signs off. For low-value repeat items some clients allow us to issue POs against approved rate contracts. Payment approval and bank access always stay with you.
How can I check whether a supplier's BIN is valid?
The NBR VAT online system allows a BIN to be checked for registration status and registered name. We also compare the BIN certificate details with the trade license and invoice. A BIN that is cancelled, suspended or registered under a different name is a reason to stop and ask questions, because input tax credit can be disallowed.
What is the difference between strategic sourcing and procurement?
Strategic sourcing decides the approach for a category and selects the suppliers; procurement executes day-to-day purchasing through requisitions, purchase orders, receipts and payments. Sourcing is periodic and analytical, procurement is continuous and transactional. Both matter, but savings are mostly created at the sourcing stage and protected at the procurement stage.
What does BPO mean in procurement?
BPO stands for business process outsourcing. In procurement it means a third party performs defined purchasing processes for your company under a contract, using its staff and methods while following your policies and approval limits. It differs from simply buying through an agent, because the provider is accountable for process quality and reporting, not just for supplying goods.
What is the difference between supply chain sourcing and procurement?
Procurement is buying from a selected supplier through POs and payments. Supply chain sourcing looks at the full upstream network, including where suppliers get their materials, how goods move and clear customs, and how resilient the chain is. It is broader and more about risk and continuity than about individual transactions.
How many quotations are required for a purchase in Bangladesh?
For private companies there is no single legal number; it is set by your own purchase policy, and three quotations is a common practice for mid-value purchases. Government entities follow the Public Procurement Act and Rules, and donor-funded projects follow donor rules. Whatever the number, the comparative statement and approval should be dated before the order.
