Portfolio management support in Bangladesh, as we provide it, is independent oversight and reporting for investors whose securities are held through BSEC-licensed portfolio managers, brokers and CDBL BO accounts. We consolidate statements, track performance and fees, reconcile dividends and capital gains with tax records, and help boards or families document investment policies, while investment decisions remain with the investor and licensed managers.
Portfolio management in Bangladesh is a regulated activity. Discretionary management of other people's securities is carried out by portfolio managers and merchant banks licensed by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, and trading goes through licensed stockbrokers with holdings recorded in CDBL BO accounts. Investors still need someone on their side who reads the statements, asks questions and keeps the tax side right.
That is the role we play. This page is for companies investing surplus funds, provident and gratuity fund trustees, family groups and individuals with portfolios across several managers. We do not manage portfolios, recommend securities or hold client assets; we provide reporting, reconciliation, governance and tax coordination.

Governance: investment policy and mandates
Good oversight starts with a written investment policy statement: objectives, risk tolerance, allowed asset types, limits, who can approve changes and how often performance is reviewed. For companies and funds, the board or trustees should approve it. We help draft and maintain the policy document and check reports against it, while the content of investment choices remains the decision of the investor and its licensed manager.
For provident and gratuity funds, trustees should also check that investments respect the rules of the fund and any conditions attached to its recognition by the tax authority.
Tax and accounting of portfolio income
Dividends usually carry tax deducted at source, and gains on listed securities are treated under specific provisions of the Income Tax Act 2023, with rates and exemptions set by the current Finance Act. Companies must also account for investments under IFRS/BFRS, generally at fair value. We reconcile dividend warrants and TDS certificates, prepare gain schedules and provide year-end figures for financial statements and tax returns.
Warning signs in a portfolio
- Statements from the manager and CDBL that do not match
- Frequent trading that generates high brokerage without clear rationale
- Concentration in a few securities beyond the agreed policy
- Dividends declared but not received
- No written mandate or investment policy at all
How the process works
- Inventory accountsWe list every portfolio, broker relationship and BO account and obtain access to statements.
- Set the policy baselineWe document or review the investment policy and reporting requirements.
- Reconcile holdingsWe match manager and broker reports to CDBL statements and cash records.
- ReportWe issue periodic reports on holdings, performance, fees, income and exceptions.
- Year-end tax and accountsWe prepare dividend, TDS and gain schedules for financial statements and returns.
Typical timeline: Initial set-up and reconciliation usually takes two to five weeks depending on the number of accounts and how quickly statements are released; regular reporting then follows a monthly or quarterly cycle.

Frequently asked questions
Are you a licensed portfolio manager?
No. Discretionary portfolio management in Bangladesh requires a BSEC licence. We provide independent reporting, reconciliation, governance and tax support to investors who use licensed managers and brokers. We do not make or recommend investment decisions.
Why do I need oversight if my manager already sends reports?
Manager reports are prepared by the party being evaluated. Independent reconciliation to CDBL records, fee review and consolidation across several managers give you an objective view and help catch errors early.
Can you help provident fund trustees?
Yes. Trustees are responsible for monitoring fund investments. We provide periodic reports, check investments against the fund's rules and policy, and prepare figures for the fund's accounts and audit.
How are capital gains on listed shares taxed?
Gains on listed securities are dealt with under specific provisions of the Income Tax Act 2023, with treatment that can differ for individuals and companies and can change through each Finance Act. We confirm the current treatment when preparing your schedules.
What access do you need to my accounts?
Read-only statements are enough: portfolio manager reports, broker ledgers, CDBL BO statements and bank statements. We do not need trading authority or passwords, and we recommend you never share them.
